Jim Riley asked:

You might disagree, but hear me out on this…filtering your shower water is just as important as filtering your drinking water. You might ask, how could this be so important? All I need is water and soap to make my body clean. So you think.

A shower head water filter is something that you should consider in promoting good health for your family.

Many of my previous articles talk about chlorine in our water. Simply put, it just isn’t good for us to ingest. Filtering our drinking water is a great first step. But incidentally, chlorine can enter our bodies during a regular shower. If we don’t use shower head water filters, chlorine can be vaporized and enter our bodies as we inhale chlorine gas. It can also be absorbed through the skin.

The physical properties of chlorine do not allow it to exist freely in nature. It is found only in combination with other chemicals, primarily sodium chloride, from which it is electrolytically extracted for commercial use.

Shower head water filters can eliminate most of this undesirable chemical.

Liquid chlorine is a clear amber fluid with a density approximately 1.5 times that of water. Under atmospheric temperature and pressure it evaporates readily, one pound forming about five cubic feet of a highly irritating greenish gas. Are you starting to see the importance of shower head water filters?

I don’t know about you, but this chlorine is bad stuff. It isn’t even found naturally in our environment. I needs to be artificially produced.

Also when I was reading about chlorine, it stated that at elevated temperatures, mixed with water, it is highly corrosive to most metals. I’m sure that you can guess that chlorine is having adverse affects on every inch of your plumbing, including those faucets and fixtures that you have paid good money for.

The best shower filters don’t cost as much as some of those fancy faucets.

Some of our water supplies have as much chlorine in them as the common swimming pool. Do you remember how your skin and hair felt after a weekend in the pool? It strips our skin and hair of its’ natural oils, leaving it dry, itchy and flakey.

This information alone is enough for most smart people, like yourself to consider using a shower head water filter. But what are the best shower filters to buy?

First of all, we need to get rid of the chlorine. The best shower filters that I have found for the money are those that offer dual stage filtration.

The first stage reduces chlorine and enhances PH balance, using a natural copper/zinc media.

The second stage uses and carbon type filter to remove other chemicals and VOCs.

Users of shower head water filters will notice softer skin and better feeling hair.

Asthma and allergy sufferers benefit and find relief from some of their symptoms, due to the decrease in chlorine gas released into the air during a shower.

In conclusion, if you concerned about your familys’ health, the installation of a shower head water filter may be one of the best things that you can do for them.

I want to install a rain shower head and hand held shower in my bathroom. What diverter system do I need?

By admin | January 21, 2010

d’lee asked:

My fiance and I are remodeling our bathroom and would like to install a rain shower head and hand held shower. What shower accessories are necessary for this kind of installation? I know we need a diverter, but I don’t know what kind. Is there anything else that’s needed? Also, does the diverter used have to be part of that particular shower series or can it be a diverter from a different brand?

Healthy Harry asked:

ng>Shower Head Bacteria and Disease - Your Shower Head May Make You Sick

A recent study by Norman R. Pace of the University of Colorado found that a bacterial organism, a relative of the bacteria that causes tuberculosis, called Mycobacterium, may be ready to shower down on you every time you get under it.

The study indicated that over the years this buidup of dangerous bacteria in your shower head may be making you sick. Because the shower head aerosolized the bacteria into the air, it is recommended you turn the shower on and leave the room for a minute.

The bacteria will still be in the air but at least will not rain down on you. The first spray of the shower is suppose to be the worse. Anyone with breathing problems should replace their shower head as soon as possible according to the study.

The study claims that people who get water from municipals city water supplies were much more prone to have a heavier build up of Mycobacterium in their shower heads. People who got their water from wells had considerably less buildup or this dangerous bacteria in their shower head.

The study also claims that shower heads should be changed 2 to 4 times a year depending on what water supply you are using.

This report is definitely worth reading!

Laurel Tevolitz asked:

When comparing water filters for shower heads, you will see that some do a better job than others at removing irritating and health threatening contaminants. There are shower filters for copper and chlorine, as well as lead, VOCs and THMs. High price is not always indicative of high quality.

We looked at five of the most popular water filters for shower heads and found dramatic differences. The prices range from $67.99 to $249.00. The most expensive filter reduces the flow rate and costs more per month to use, due mostly to the cost of replacement filter cartridges. More interesting was that the least expensive model was rated highly by Consumer’s Digest Magazine and does the same job that the most expensive one does.

Two of the five could not be categorized as shower filters for copper and chlorine, since they only blocked chlorine, not copper. In general, if a filter blocks lead, it blocks copper and if it does not block copper then it does not block lead. Lead is one of the more dangerous compounds find in our tap water.

It is unsafe for consumption at any level. It can be absorbed through the skin and inhaled in the form of vapor. Copper is safe at normal levels found in most ground water, but can change the smell or taste of drinking water and does stain porcelain fixtures at certain levels. That’s one reason that people use shower filters for copper and chlorine. They improve the smell and protect the bathroom fixtures.

Besides improving smell, there are several health reasons to block chlorine with water filters for shower heads. Chlorine vapors become concentrated in the closed bathroom during a hot shower. Research has shown that the vapors trigger asthma and allergy attacks.

When it reacts with other components of the steam, it becomes chloroform. The FDA has stated that most homes in America have a measurable amount of chloroform gas in the air. The cause: hot showers without chlorine water filters for shower heads. Symptoms of chloroform exposure include unexplained headaches and dizziness. The chemical vapors also irritate the delicate membranes of the nasal passages and will aggravate sinus problems.

Chlorine dries out the skin and hair. Anyone who has ever swum in a chlorinated swimming pool is aware of that fact. Shower filters for copper and chlorine originally became popular as beauty aids, because in a matter of days, users notice softer skin and hair. Hair is more manageable and less brittle. Less hair ends up falling out or being pulled out by the hair brush.

Now, we know that they water filters for shower heads are important health aids. Just make sure to shop around!

Andrew Putnam asked:

Water filters for shower heads are slowly becoming a necessary part of our daily lives. The water supply that comes in is getting so tainted with chlorine, copper and other chemicals that we cannot help but filter them out with shower filters for copper and chlorine. These chemicals have to be in our cross hairs all the time.

Chlorine bleaches hair, causes rashes and wreaks havoc on our bodies. So, it is important that we protect ourselves with water filters for shower heads. It is a necessary evil that we have so many chemicals in our lives. Chlorine makes water safer by killing many forms of harmful bacteria, but thanks to shower filters for copper and chlorine we don’t have to bathe in it.

Buying water filters for shower heads is a smart decision for many reasons. The best shower filters for copper and chlorine will protect you from many things, including lead, VOCs, and THMs. Not all water filters for shower heads are the same, of course, so you have to compare product performance data and read some customer reviews, if you can. You may be surprised at what you learn.

At the end of the day, you come home tired and stressful. The thing that revives you and gives you vigor is a good shower, but if you shower with regular tap water, particularly if it’s chlorinated, you may be left feeling a little let down. To get the results you desire try just one shower with the better water filters for shower heads. You’ll be amazed at the difference.

Most people say that once they start using shower filters for copper and chlorine, as well as other chemicals, they never want to shower in unfiltered water again. It’s too bad that they have yet to come up with portable water filters for shower heads for those of us who shower.

The health benefits of shower filters for copper and chlorine are even more impressive than the feeling of bathing in ultra-clean water. The fumes of chlorine can cause more harm than ingesting the chemical. Chlorine gas was one of the first chemical weapons. Unless you have water filters for shower heads that remove chlorine, you are exposing your sensitive respiratory system (and those of your family) to this toxic gas on a daily basis.

Copper if taken in high doses can be toxic, as well. If you have a high copper content in your water, you notice stains on your fixtures or a funny smell, you could be overexposing your family to copper. It is absorbed through the skin, as well as by ingesting it. Shower filters for copper and chlorine take it out before it can be absorbed by your skin.

Of course, you’ll want filters for the kitchen tap, as well, but your skin is your body’s largest organ. It absorbs water and everything in it very quickly, so without good water filters for shower heads, you are not doing all that you can to protect your health.

Chlorine can cause illness and aggravate existing medical conditions. It can causes eye irritation, skin break outs and triggers asthma attacks, just to name a few. Why would you want to take a chance with your family’s health. Shower filters for copper and chlorine are reasonably priced and the best ones are easy to install in a matter of minutes, without the help of a plumber.

An investment in good water filters for shower heads is an investment in your health. Just make sure to be a smart shopper.

Ray Hamilton asked:

When we think of water contamination, we automatically assume that we are only exposed if we drink it, but more and more now a shower head water filter is becoming a necessity as we realize just how much toxins we can absorb.

The American Journal of Public Health confirms that up to two-thirds of the harmful effects of chlorine are due to inhalation and skin absorption while showering. As we shower, all the pores in our skin open up and absorb the steam, making the need for a shower head water filter even more urgent.

The researchers at Rutgers University also confirm that we take in the same amount of chloroform (vaporized chlorine) from a 10 minute shower as we would if we drank over 2 liters of unfiltered water.

As you can see, with thousands of contaminants in our supply, we are ever more exposed in many areas to the dangers of them, and with a predicted rise in our use of chemicals in industry and agriculture, the situation can only deteriorate further.

For a shower head water filter to be effective, it must remove the chlorine, parasites, synthetic drugs and lead etc, to leave you with pure water as it once was. The differences you will notice, besides not having to worry about your health, will be softer hair and skin within a week.

This is mostly due to the removal of chlorine which dries out your skin and hair and can cause irritations and rashes as well. Your skin will retain more moisture which helps to give it a more youthful appearance!

It is a shame we must go to such measures to protect our health and well-being, but it is essential we return our water to the way it was, natural and pure, to keep us healthy and free from disease.

Then you can linger longer and enjoy your showers, knowing you are protecting yourself and safeguarding your health for the future too.

Visit my website today if you would like to learn more about the types of shower head water filter that I personally recommend and use.

Amanda Bashore asked:

Every homeowner is entitled to feel pampered in their own home. Whether you decide to invest in a luxury mattress, beautiful lighting fixtures, or fluffy carpeting – it’s nice to enjoy simple luxuries within the home on a daily basis. One place to consider transforming into somewhat of a “getaway” within your own home is the bathroom. Escaping to the bathroom after a long day of work to unwind and relax can be fantastic for your stress levels. Imagine relaxing in a hot bath or shower while soothing scents fill the steamed air around you. Ready to make changes in your bath yet? Stop daydreaming and start doing! If you’re looking for a relatively small project to start with – consider changing out your shower head.

Changing your shower head is a relatively simple project and can be achieved in just a few minutes. If you don’t have a lot of tools or you’re new to home improvement – you can still replace your showerhead easily! All you’ll have to do is remove the connectors with pliers (some may require a screwdriver) and ta-da! You’re ready to install your new piece. Removing your old showerhead will also give you the opportunity to clean any debris or build-up that has gathered around the pipe over time. If you’ve experienced leakage from the base of your showerhead in the past, apply some plumber’s tape around the pipe before you install your new head to ensure there is a water tight seal. This will eliminate any extra dripping that may have been occurring in the past.

Now that you know how to change your showerhead – it’s time to choose a new one. Heading to your local home improvement store should provide you with quite a selection of new hardware for your shower. A great choice is to choose a showerhead that offers you different functions that can be changed easily by rotating the head itself. Sometimes, you may be in the mood to take a relaxing shower – so the massage function will be great. Other times, you may want a wider flow of water as opposed to a pulsating jet stream, so the spray mode would be best. It gives you versatility which will help allow you to get the most out of your time in the bath.

Another great option when choosing a showerhead is to select one with a removable piece. You can use the removable “wand” to massage your back with relaxing jets of water and you can easily adjust the height and placement of the spray when it’s mounted on the wall. If you have children, you can quickly and easily rinse shampoo from their hair with a removable shower head. Investing in pieces that are versatile will help save you money and allow you to have a fully functional bathroom that you and the entire family will be able to use and enjoy.

Luxury showerheads can often be inexpensive and are certainly something that can help you give your home that upscale and luxurious feel without having to take out a small loan. Giving yourself simple luxuries in the home will help you relax, enjoy your home more, and allow you to truly get the most out of your investments. Who knows – once you install a piece like a massaging shower head, you may just be motivated to transform your entire bathroom into a beautiful sanctuary that you and your family will be able to use and enjoy for many years to come. However large you choose to make your project… remember to take the time to enjoy these wonderful changes in your home.

David Cassell asked:

We all like to take a refreshing shower after either a hard day at work or first thing in the morning to wake ourselves up before leaving. But do you know the benefits to having charcoal filters for shower head? Well I am about to tell you.

What a charcoal shower filter does is to take the chlorine out from the water you wash with. Chlorine in water can attribute towards dryer skin as well as causing your hair to be damaged, dry and brittle.

By having a charcoal filter you can stop this from happening as well as keeping your skin in much better condition. If you suffer from skin conditions like eczema you may have found that your skin flakes when you wash it no matter the amount of moisturizer you put on.

This could also be down to the amount of chlorine that is in your water but this is where you can count on a charcoal chlorine filter to help you. Also in chlorinated water are dangerous chemicals which are called Trihalomethanes (THM’s) that can cause cancers as well as other problems. Once they have been released from your tap or shower they can become airborne meaning that the risks to your health are increased even more.

You may be thinking that if chlorine has so many adverse side effects then why is it added to our water? Well, if you think about all the people in third world countries who are dying because of the diseases within water, then you will have your answer. Although there are safer methods that can be used to disinfect water, chlorine is used because of its price effectiveness. Unfortunately, you do get what you pay for and with the government cutting costs, you the consumer is stuck with washing and drinking water that could cause serious health problems. The onus is upon you to make your water safer to drink for your family.

A charcoal water filter is really your best solution to removing chlorine from your tap water and this would cost you as little as 9 cents a day. Each filter will last about 3 months depending on the amount of occupants there are in your house, the amount of times they shower and the amount of chlorine in your area.

A charcoal shower head filter is easy to fit and you do not need any special instillation equipment to enable you to do so. Neither do you have to get anyone else to do it. You only need follow the simple instructions that come with your new charcoal filter.

If you think of all the benefits and the fact that you will be minimizing the risks that the chlorine poses to your family, I am sure you will feel like a lot of people, that this filtration device is more than worth the small amount you’ll pay to acquire it.

Can you really put a price on your family’s safety? For 9 cents a day, you get the chance to make this very basic need of life - water - a much safer commodity for your family consume.
