A recent  study by Norman R. Pace of the University of Colorado found that a bacterial organism, a relative of the bacteria that causes tuberculosis, called Mycobacterium, may be ready to shower down on you every time you get under it.

The study indicated that over the years this buidup of dangerous bacteria in your shower head may be making you sick. Because the showerhead aerosolized the bacteria into the air, it is recommended you turn the shower on and leave the room for a minute.

The bacteria will still be in the air but at least will not rain down on you. The first spray of the shower is suppose to be the worse. Anyone with breathing problems should replace their shower head as soon as possible according to the study.

DNA Testing was performed on 45 shower heads from Denver and New York

The study claims that  people who get water from municipals city water supplies were much more prone to have a heavier build up of Mycobacterium in their shower heads. People who got their water from wells had considerably less buildup or this dangerous bacteria in their shower head.

The study also claims that shower heads should be changed 2 to 4 times a year depending on what water supply you are using.
