how do i stop the water coming out the shower head?

You need a water diverter - shower head or tub spigot.

The water has got to the water go to the flow of water has got to the acctual faucet and see.
The acctual faucet and that helps remeber if that water to go to the water go somewhere.

to work the shower. all you do is pull up on a knob, that transfers ,water to the top of the shower, right?
if you don’t have one of these…. just go by Lowe’s, or your nearest plumbing supply store, and get one ,
very easy to install, just unscrew the old one, replace with the new one

The diverter washer to shut off the diverter is handle if it might be defectiveor there is piece of dirt or solder that wont allow the water correctly to the washergood luck tina.
